How long have you been creating music?
James: I have been making music for 8 years under different aliases, messing with a lot of different styles.
Ashley: I’ve been writing music since I was in elementary school. Like lyrics in crayon sort of thing.
What do you use to make your tracks?
James: We use FL Studio, with various plugins, and we have a Rode NT1A microphone for vocal recording.
Ashley: My voice.
How and when did you first discover Dirtybird?
James: When I first moved to Florida in 2017. Ashley had a big flag in the studio room with an egg on it. I did some research and realized I knew a lot of the artists signed to DB, but never really knew much about the label itself.
Ashley: On my first Holy Ship sailing. Everyone was nuts over Claude & the birds. That really opened up my ears to the house world!
Which Dirtybird artist would you want to collaborate with the most?
James: Claude because you know....its Claude, but Walker & Royce would be a fun duo to work with. I really love their unique style, and sound they have. We are also starting something with the Doctor Danny Kolk
Ashley: J. Mart- He really flexed his melodic skills with Hello Clouds. I’d love to do some vocals for him.
If your entire life was a movie, what title would best describe you?
James: Twister; because of my love for weather. Plus my life has been similar to that of a tornado.
Ashley: Puss in Boots
What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
James: When I was 17 I saw The Gorillaz 'Demon Days' tour in Chicago and to this day it was the best concert I’ve ever experienced. A runner up or tie would be Porter Robinson's Worlds live show.
Ashley: It’s hard to top seeing Nero live for the first time! Alana is a goddess.
If you could time travel, where and when would you go?
James: Maybe back to the 90s to get a feel of how the rave scene was, you always hear stories, but being able to actually experience those days would be amazing.
Ashley: Wouldn’t mind checking out some Dino’s.
What species of bird best describes you and why?
James: A Kakapo, they are really cool birds and they are nocturnal like me.
Ashley: I’ve been compared to a Mockingbird because I’m constantly singing noises or basically any song I’ve ever heard. On shuffle. All day.
What does Dirtybird mean to you?
James: A community that has been built into something I have never experienced before from a record label. Campout East was my first official Dirty Bird event, and just everything about it was perfect. We can't wait for what the future holds for us with the DB family.
Ashley: Dirtybird = The freedom to be yourself & connect with the weirdest people with the best taste in music. (;
