Bare Mountain (Dick Johnson Refix)
Jesse Rose & Claude VonStroke
[BIRDFEED EXCLUSIVE] This week's track is a special edit of Claude & Jesse's track from New Zealand's Dick Johnson!
-How long have you been creating music?
I was making house in the mid 90's. I ran a record label called Shaboom and was working at the Hacienda club in Manchester, so I started out making tracks for my own label and also the Hacienda's label Pleasure.
-What do you use to make your tracks?
Logic with plug ins and a handful of analogue synths.
-How and when did you first discover Dirtybird?
From the start and the Southern Draw EP, I was a massive fan of Justin Martin's first releases, it was like nothing else out there. I also swapped remixes with Worthy around the same time so I've always been a big fan of the Dirtybird sound forever.
-Which Dirtybird artist would you want to collaborate with the most?
Justin Martin because his tunes all have something unique about them and I'd imagine there'd be a lot of laughs in the studio.
-If your entire life was a movie, what title would best describe you?
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
-What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
I was lucky enough to see Prince just a couple of months before he passed away, just him and a piano, i'll never forget that one.
-If you could time travel, where and when would you go?
Back to Quincy Jones studio in the early 80's when he was making Thriller. I just watched his Netflix documentary, what an incredible guy and genius producer.
-What species of bird best describes you and why?
Probably a New Zealand native bird called a Tui, they have quite a complicated voice and song mixed with coughs and splutters which reminds me a bit of the way my tracks sound sometimes. I've actually sampled them a few times.
-What does Dirtybird mean to you?
A label that doesn't take itself too seriously but pushes the production boundaries of house and techno and the tracks always smash it.
